SAINT JOHN – Nearly 200 nurses from across the province gathered in Saint John this week to conduct important union business at NBNU’s 52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM).
“Our Annual General Meeting is where nurses from across New Brunswick come together to set priorities, strengthen our collective voice, and shape the future of our union,” said Paula Doucet, NBNU President. “Over the past three days, delegates engaged in thoughtful debate, shared their experiences from the front lines, and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and strengthening public health care for everyone in our province.”
The AGM took place at the Delta Saint John over three days. Resolutions passed during the meeting included:
- Formally opposing any legislation, policy or restructuring initiative that expands private, for-profit delivery of health care services in New Brunswick
- Calling upon employers and government to implement comprehensive workplace violence strategies, including adequate staffing levels, security measures, flagging systems, safe reporting processes, de-escalation training, and timely incident investigations
- Advocating for increased public investment in long-term care services and infrastructure in New Brunswick, including increasing the minimum hours of direct care per resident
- “The decisions made at this year’s AGM reflect what matters most to our members: safe workplaces, high-quality public health care, and better supports for both patients and caregivers,” said Doucet. “As we move forward, NBNU will continue to advocate for policies that address workplace violence, strengthen long-term care, and safeguard our publicly delivered health-care system.”
Union elections saw the re-election of Renée Boudreau to the role of 2nd Vice-President for a three-year term, as well as the re-election by acclamation of Catherine Little to the role of 1st Vice-President for a three-year term.
