Eligible NBNU members have until December 31, 2025 to sign a 2-year Return of Service (RoS) Agreement and submit it to their employer for the $10,000 retention benefit announced by Premier Holt’s government in November 2024.
This deadline applies to all eligible NBNU members, including:
- Newly hired nurses who accepted a permanent position after November 28, 2024.
- Casual nurses who accepted a permanent position after November 28, 2024.
- Former permanent part-time nurses who:
- Received a partial retention benefit
- Accepted a permanent full-time position after November 28, 2024, and
- Wish to receive the remaining balance of the $10,000 retention benefit.
Note: Permanent part-time nurses that have increased their permanent part-time FTE are not entitled to an additional retention amount.
Example: A permanent part-time nurse who went from a 0.5 FTE to a 0.8 FTE is not entitled to an additional retention amount.
Important Details
- The new position must be accepted and the signed RoS Agreement submitted to the employer by December 31, 2025.
- You do not need to start working in the new position by that date.
- After December 31, 2025, the RoS Agreement for $10,000 will no longer be available.
- The RoS agreements that all eligible NBNU members are required to sign to receive a separate $5,000 retention benefit will be available until March 31, 2026. We will remind you by email when we are closer to that date.
Approved Leaves
Maternity leave, long-term disability and other types of leave
Eligible members who have been on an approved leave of absence from a permanent position since November 28, 2024 will receive the $10,000 Retention Benefit upon their return to a permanent position.
There is no requirement to return to work before December 31, 2025.
