The John MacDonald Memorial Scholarship

We honour the legacy of John MacDonlad, a long-standing and dedicated member, who made a meaningful impact at both the local and provincial levels. We created this $1,000 scholarship in John’s memory as our way of recognizing his commitment to education, advocacy and activism.

John had passion for lifelong learning and held both a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Nursing. He shared his knowledge by teaching academic upgrading at NBCC and he spent much of his career caring for others in the long-term care sector at the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home. In 2016, when conversations began around replacing the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home and Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, John was actively involved. He advocated for what was best for us and the residents. He never shied away from tough conversations and understood the importance of standing up in the workplace, even when it wasn’t easy.

This meaningful tribute keeps his spirit alive and reminds us all of the value of continued learning. Each year, a special subcommittee of our Board of Directors select a recipient of this scholarship.
