The primary goal of our Union is to advocate on behalf of members. It’s through political advocacy that the voices of New Brunswick Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Licenced Practical Nurses are heard.

NBNU campaigns hard on behalf of its members for increased patient safety, fair and equitable working conditions in all healthcare settings and the continuance of publicly funded, high-quality healthcare for all Canadians. We lobby government for changes and improvements to existing legislation and propose new legislation that will positively affect our healthcare system. This is an important way we ensure that elected representatives are held accountable to the best interests of the public and our members.

    Fair Finish

    Healthcare professionals deserve the choice to retire at 60—with no cuts to their pension benefits. That’s the heart of NBNU’s Fair Finish campaign, launched jointly with the New Brunswick Union. The campaign aims to correct this inequity, arguing that the physical and emotional toll of healthcare work, and the years of service given, justify earlier retirement without penalty. Fair Finish has engaged thousands of NBNU members and allies—through emails, postcards and social media—to put pressure on the government to change pension rules.

    Still Calling

    Through real stories from long-time RNs, nurse practitioners and LPNs, NBNU worked to uplift and reconnect members with their passion for care, while also retaining the workforce, recruiting new talent and inspiring students to choose nursing as a career. By celebrating the meaning, compassion and resilience that define nursing, Still Calling built pride, visibility and solidarity—always with the goal of making healthcare in New Brunswick more sustainable, supported and humane.

    VoteHealth.ca

    Every election matters for healthcare—that’s what NBNU’s VoteHealth.ca campaign was all about. The campaign urges registered nurses, nurse practitioners and all New Brunswickers to make health a priority at the ballot box. From staffing shortages and long-term care challenges to access to primary care, pharmacare, mental health services and safe working conditions, VoteHealth.ca highlights the key issues that need action. NBNU encourages voters to stay informed, demand commitments from candidates and use their vote to shape a healthcare system that works—not just for patients, but also for those who provide care.

    The Forgotten Generation

    New Brunswick’s seniors deserve dignity, safety and quality care. That’s why NBNU launched The Forgotten Generation, a campaign built around the report “An Urgent Call for Reform in New Brunswick’s Long-Term Care Sector.” The report documents deep failures in our long-term care system: understaffed homes, unmet minimum staffing ratios, inconsistent oversight, aging infrastructure and reduced access to essential services like medical referrals, bathing and foot care. It calls for immediate reforms—with 38 actionable recommendations—to protect seniors who are vulnerable and often unable to advocate for themselves. The Forgotten Generation is a public call to action for government accountability through an independent public inquiry, stronger staffing and oversight, elimination of unsafe privatization and investment in long-term care that respects the people who built our province.
